A preschool teacher is an early childhood educator who instructs kids from age group of 3 to 5 years. This is the youngest stretch of early childhood education.Preschool teacher also called a nursery teacher. They help prepare small kids by making them learn good habits and manners. Preschool Teacher Eligibility
They should be at least 12th class pass along with certain other qualifications.
Preschool teachers should also support the development of children’s basic skills, like communication, creative development etc through various stories, games, drawings and innovative plays.
They should have compassion, communication skills, a sense of humor and a willingness to lead and manage groups of energetic children. They should also be able to develop and produce visual aids and teaching resources; organizing learning materials and resources and making imaginative use of resources; assisting with the development of children’s personal / social and language abilities. They could also be able to develop children’s curiosity and knowledge; working with others, including teaching assistants / helpers, to plan and coordinate work both indoors and outdoors; sharing knowledge gained with other practitioners and parents.
Applicants should also possess motivating and stimulating children’s learning abilities, often encouraging learning through experience; providing pastoral care and support to children and providing them with a secure environment to learn.
Teachers should also be able to observe, assessing and recording each child’s progress; attending in-service training; ensuring the health and safety of children and staff is maintained during all activities, both inside and outside the school.
Teacher should be up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice for children.
How to become Preschool Teacher?
For becoming teacher one has to follow the below given steps:-
I. There are a number of vocational training centres which conduct training for pre-school teachers. The starting point is N.T.T. and other option is Early Childhood and Care Education (ECCE) provided by IGNOU on distance basis. Such as for primary teacher, the minimum requirement is a graduate with a nursery training certificate / diploma or degree. Normally candidates who have Bachelors in education (B.Ed.) start their career as primary school teachers and gradually move up. The candidate should be a graduate or a post graduate holding either a diploma or degree in education or teaching.
II. The candidate should have at studied least one of the teaching subjects during graduation. Then they can obtain an associate’s degree in childhood development or education to widen your employment possibilities.
- They can become teachers, supervisors, curriculum planners, course co-coordinators, and child-care takers in playschools.
- You can also start and manage your own nursery school / play school / pre-school / crèche / day-care centre / nursery hobby class, etc.
- They can also have jobs in infant and primary schools, including preparatory schools, maintained / independent nurseries, children centres, nursery centres and early excellence centres.
- Other places they can have jobs in community schools; foundation and trust schools; voluntary aided and controlled schools; academies; free schools.
Playschool Teacher Salary
The salary of a Nursery School Teacher varies from state to state and school to school such as at some places it starts from Rs.5,000 to Rs.7,000 somewhere it is between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 10,000. Remuneration is great in terms of job satisfaction. However, it may not be commensurate with the labor involved, as a nursery school is not of the organised sector. But now at some of the places these schools are being undertaken as organised sector.
